Through a series of community-based planning meetings, the architects captured the community's ideas and desires. The community expressed a desire to create a campus atmosphere, while placing specific grades in separate buildings. Unlike college campuses, where students travel between buildings, the Cambridge Campus incorporates an elementary school building, a middle school building, and a high school building on one site while maintaining separate grade groupings.

The three buildings preserve a campus harmony through the use of similar materials, fenestration, and architectural elements. To prepare for future growth and needs, the site allows for additions, such as space for a high school auditorium.

Upon entering the 150-acre site, the high school is the most prominent feature, focusing on the central, two-story media center. Each school can be viewed as the site winds back, integrating students with a sense of community to their present, past and future schools. Because the elementary school is at the back of the site, its secondary entrance aids in traffic flow and envelops a neighborhood atmosphere with the adjacent residential subdivision.

The high school's central auditeria will provide a spacious area for school and community musical and theatrical performances, as well as student dining. Due to the school's extensive music education program, a comprehensive music suite will be located adjacent to the auditeria stage for easy access during performances. The auditeria, new gymnasium, and full-scale science labs are all direct responses to community input for the high school.
