FAIRFIELD CAREER CENTER
Career & Technical School Addition
Lancaster, Ohio

Client: Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools

Total Existing Area: 89,500 S.F.

Addition Size: 20,500 SF

Total Cost: $2.4 Million

Completion Date: April 2002

The 2.4 million dollar addition to the Fairfield Career Center more than addresses an increasing student population and new educational programs. The innovative design also transforms the career center's image and serves as a new marketing tool for the district.
The new front façade was designed to be the dominant feature. The tower element serves as the signature of the building and directs visitors and students to the entrance. Once inside, the entryway opens up to an arched ceiling with clerestory windows. Structural steel beams and pendant lighting further enhance the space.

The addition houses new science labs, a computer support technology lab, an HVAC lab, and new adult education spaces. All of these spaces were designed to support evolving educational technology while keeping an eye toward the future and wireless technology. A high-tech image was developed through a dynamic combination of exposed ceilings, pendant light fixtures, and translucent paneling Kalwall.
