EAST MUSKINGUM MIDDLE SCHOOL
K-12 Facility
New Construction

New Concord, Ohio

Client: East Muskingum Local School District

The new East Muskingum Middle School was built adjacent to the existing high school, intermediary school, and district administrative offices to complete the district's campus.

The main entrance is highlighted by a vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows that increase natural lighting. Clerestory windows brighten the main intersection of the academic wings. The media center boasts a raised octagon-shaped ceiling and oversized windows.

The building is organized so that each of the three academic wings houses a separate grade level. Each wing also contains two classrooms that are divided by an operable wall, allowing for flexibility and the capability to house large-scale class meetings.

A fine arts wing and a music wing are also incorporated into the design. The music wing is conveniently located adjacent to the auditeria's elevated stage.

The middle school includes the latest technology and computers and televisions in every classroom. A security system, including cameras and card key access controls, are also incorporated into the design.

By locating the gymnasium and auditeria near the main entrance, both can remain open while academic wings are secured during after school hours.
