UNION FURNACE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Client: Logan-Hocking Local School District Total Area: 46,811 S.F. Total Cost: $6,120,810 The district desired to maintain the existing elementary school's site for the location of their new building. To do so, a creek was rerouted and land leveled to provide enough space for the 46,811 s.f. school. Future plans for the creek include a surrounding nature preserve, equipped with walking trails to be utilized for outdoor learning spaces and for social gatherings. The 8-acre site also incorporates separate parent and bus drop-off areas to alleviate traffic congestion. For security and supervision, the principal's office overlooks the bus drop off and main entrance areas. The administrative offices are located adjacent to the main entrance for further security. The state-of-the-art
media center promotes supervision as well, with windows that overlook
the adjacent computer lab so that instructors can view both rooms. Exposed
sloping ceilings, pendant light fixtures, and large-scale windows accent
the space. The media center houses the central media retrieval system,
which connects televisions throughout the building. In addition to the
computer lab, each classroom features four computers with the latest
educational programs and Internet access. Each room also includes an
integrated phone and speaker system. |
